SXA Backyard BBQ Sanya

It's amazing how BBQ can be found pretty much anywhere you go around the world. On our trip to Sanya China the SXA crew managed to find the best Backyard BBQ thanks to our friends Terry and Benny from Guangzhou. This place we ended up at was located in the dark alleys behind some houses and down some brick, dirt, and rocky streets. When we arrived there were a bunch of colorful plastic chairs that looked like they were part of a kids play set along with some make shift wooden tables. There was a selection of fresh seafood on display from the nearby fishing village. To place an order all you had to do was point out what which fish, eel, squid or type of seafood you wanted. The lady outside would throw it on the grill on a kabob stick and bring it to you hit off the grill when it was done. Along with the BBQ we had 10 bottles of the local beer. For desert we had pidgeon soup served in a coconut shell. We weren't told of what it was until after we ate it and gave our 2 thumbs up. It tasted like chicken but we were a bit disturbed to find out what it was after we ate it. I must say I wish there we'd more places like this around that make you feel like your at home hangin loose with your friends and fam grinding awesome BBQ all while suckin em up and have a good time!

BBQ with Nelson

Got to hang out and bbq with Nelson and Sasha as well as with braddah Kyle. Nelson was visiting from Long Beach and found some time between his busy schedule to stop by and bbq with Bev and I. As usual good times good food! Awesome fresh greens salad straight from the Kanno's garden too!

SXA Thanksgiving

Here's some pics of our traditional Thanksgiving get together we have every year at the Warren's. Lots of preparation, excitement and love goes into preparing this feast. When all is said and done and the beer is all gone and everyone's opu is stuffed to da max and if the Cowboys lose you can always count on getting the boot and the infamous "You ain't gotta go home, but you gotta get the hell on out of here" farewell!

Mikala's Bday BBQ

     It's been a month or so since our last SXA BBQ. This past Saturday we got together to celebrate my boy Mikala's 19th. The vog finally left the islands and we were left with the type of great weather that Hawaii is known for. Along with that the waves were 2-3ft and the tradewinds were back! Perfect day to BBQ and drink nice cold beer!

     For this special occasion I put together a menu we haven't done in awhile. This time around I did some classic BBQ pork ribs with my secret spicy sauce. Actually it's not so secret but it was spicy! A little bit of Sriracha, shoyu, honey, Pacific Hot Ground Chili Peppers did the job. The first batch of ribs came out a little to dry and crispy because I was too busy drinking my beer (oops)! The next 4 racks came out nice and tender though (had to slow down with the beer and pay more attention to the ribs)! Had one guy come by asking "how much for a rib" when he saw these beauties on the rack! I must say I out did myself on this one thank you very much!

Had to put Kai and Jordan on guard duty after the braddah asked how much for one rib!

     Bev stopped by Let Them Eat Cupcakes on Berretania St. to pick up some of the most sought after cupcakes on the island. Dulce De Leche, Bacon and Maple, Lilikoi, and Chocolate something. I gotta say the Bacon and Maple was definitely a surprise and is by far the best of the bunch! Not to sweet, not to sour, but just right!

     This guy...is the reason for the first round of ribs not being up to par. Marlon aka "No Can Handle Randle" fell asleep on the job!

     Just like the ribs the first pound of shrimp came out dry so on the second round I decided to layout some foil and let the shrimp simmer in the italian dressing. The shrimp never made it off the grill because everyone was just taking straight from the grill while it was nice and hot!

Happy Birthday Mikala!

My boy is 19 today. Dang time flies doesn't it. When he was 5 he used to race BMX and then he retired when he was 7. 12 years later he's back in the saddle again! Making time to go to school, work, hang out with his girl, and ride bike leaves not much time for much of anything else. As you grow up you learn to spend time doing the things you like all while paying your dues to get by in life. Enjoy the journey and take it all in because you're only 19 once!
