SXA on the Gram

From time to time I'll get a message or tag from friends and supporters of SXA on Instagram sharing their photos of them having a good time and enjoying life. I feel honored and privileged that these awesome people allow for SXA to be a part of their experience. Big mahalos to everyone for the continued Support! Aloha! - Rodney Chmolack

Brixton's 1st Birthday Backyard BBQ

This was the spot that we'd be occupying for Brixton's 1st Birthday Backyard BBQ. I've never been to Ewa Beach Park before but I gotta tell you this is the prime spot if you're going to have a big party and you like bbq and going swimming at the beach. It's located all the way at the end of Ewa Beach before you hit Iriquois Point.

Dyson and Ike had gotten here at around 8:15am to reserve the spot. Good thing they did because by noon the park was full and there was no parking to be had. Good thing is that we had all the big trees to provide all the shade we would need throughout the day because it was a bright and hot one.

The usual SXA Chamorro Style BBQ Chicken

Dyson busted out the wok for the lumpia and empanadas.

This is Dyson's mom Auntie Lori deep frying the empanadas.

These buggahs couldn't cook fast enough!

I had to sample a couple before we let everyone eat otherwise this would be the last I'd see of this deep fried goodness.

SXA Chamorro Style BBQ Chicken pau and ready for grind!

Lori and Dyson reheating Jurdan's Chamorro style red rice.

If you haven't had Chamorro style red rice then you are missing out. It's similar to ganduli rice minus the pork and garbonzo beans. Usually there's olives, peas and some onions in there. I could eat this all by itself along with a cold beer and I'd be happy!

By now everyone had showed up and was ready to grind.

Here's the birthday boy Brixton (red) with his cousins Maverick and Diesel chillin' in the pool!

And here we have da braddahs playing a game of Podagee Horseshoes.

Just past the basketball courts was this beautiful Ewa Beach view. Ewa is pretty much where all the locals live and play. There's the occassional military resident but other than that it's all locals.

The birthday boy Brixton and his uncle Dillon aka "Turkey" wants to thank everyone for coming out and spending this beautiful day with them and their ohana! Aloooohhhaaaaa!!!

Brawny's Backyard BBQ

Whenever I do a BBQ with anyone especially with Brawny, I always have to stop what I'm doing and take a look around to take in everything. I'm always amazed at all the people who take the time out of their busy days to drop by for some BBQ and to talk story. It seems that I always meet someone I haven't met before, get into talking story with them, and then have to get back to the grill thus forgetting names. Pictures help me to remember the occassion as well as the person I was talking story with. It doesn't help that time flies during these gatherings either. It seems that the prep time takes longer! Regardless it's always a good time and I feel fortunate to be in Long Beach BBQ'n with all my friends and people I'm meeting for the first time. Mahalo to Brawny and The Speed Merchant for letting me use their space to share a little bit of what we love to do so much back home in Hawaii!

Can't Stay Jose and Mike Quinones

The infamous oil pumps that you can find all throughout Long Beach. Motorcycles and SXA BBQ can only be found at Brawny's garage!

Braddah Stevie with the Hamachi collar that Sean Yontz prepared. I was intimidated about breaking out ribs after seeing this!

Stevie and Sean trading BBQ secrets and recipes!
Kingman came out even though he had another BBQ he had to attend later with his ohana. I owe a lot to this braddah for allowing me to share SXA BBQ with him and his friends at Stance Socks.

Nick, Mike Franklin, and El Yeti doing work!

The Parknado came all the way from San Diego with the rest of his ohana to partake in the BBQ festivities!

James and Sensei Kevin from The Jiu Jitsu League in Long Beach stopped by for a quick bite! Mahalo Sensei Kevin Howell for always making it a point to stop by the SXA BBQ.  Hope the ribs were good for you guys!
Ryuji Nakazato knows how! Taking charge of the SXA Ribs and doing and excellent job!

Now that's how you start a fire!

Charlie Thomas was in town all the way from New Orleans. Braddah has got the veggie BBQ thing down!

Braddah Dave brought up some spicy bulgogi and shortribs from his secret spot down in San Diego. The buggah was so ono! Mahalo Dave for making the drive out with your ohana! It was great seeing you guys!
