Father's Day 2011 Ala Moana Beach Park

This past Father's Day we got up early once again and staked our claim to a front row spot at Ala Moana Beach Park. Marly Marlon once again was coming off a late night bender in his backyard celebrating the recent purchase of his new tiki torches! I got to his pad at around 8am and he and Maria were already busy with the gondooli rice and ribs. I had the steak and shrimp covered, and the rest was up to everyone else. This was also a special day for Jeff and Kyle who celebrated their first Father's Day. Marlon and I had "da keedz" helping out with grillin' some of the food so we could relax and have a few beers. Marshy, his lady friend, Kai, and Dyson went out and sampled the incoming swell. The beach park was jumping as usual with hundreds of families bbq'ing, hot rods and bikes rolling through, and a bunch of random entertainment going on all around. Although all the dad's put in work to make this all happen it was a great day to say the least and we wouldn't have had it any other way!

Happy Father's Day

I know it's a couple days early but I wanted to send out my best to all the dads out there. Hope you guys all have a great weekend with your families and friends. Go ahead and put your feet up, relax, and let your kids do all the work (you know that's not gonna happen)! Be on the lookout for the update on our Shakas x Alohas "Father's Day BBQ"!

Harry Kojima

Who doesn't remember Harry Kojima. Harry seemed to always be on TV when I was growing up with his show "Let's Go Fishing". He was like an uncle to everyone who watched his show. I don't know about you guys but I have a few relatives who are just like Harry and probably were inspired in one way or another by the man. Hawaii has lost yet another local legend. RIP Uncle Harry Kojima.

Jeff's 36th

After a heavy night of thunder, lightning, and 3 bottles of wine with the Warren's at Auntie Pastos I woke up to a very questionable Saturday morning. Questionable in a sense that I wasn't sure if I was still sleeping or awake as well as if the weather was going to cooperate for the days big event. Still trying to figure out what went on the night before I dragged myself out of bed packed up the van and headed over to Magic Island to set up shop for the day. We were going to celebrate my brother Jeff's 36th over some BBQ, beers, and surf with some family and friends. Not only did the weather cooperate it ended up being a typical picturesque Hawaiian day. The sun was out all day, the surf was on the rise, and the friends kept on rolling in. The BBQ grill was fired up all day long and there was nothing but ono grinds coming off of it. Big Mahalos to all that showed up and helped make it a great day.

8am

Just a couple hours before it was thundering and lightning.

The view from our front porch.

It really doesn't get any better than this.
